We "Rock": Anthropology + Evaluation

Updated: Sep 19, 2019

Mary Odell Butler, COPAA Visiting Fellow (2012-2013)

I am so grateful to COPAA for providing the platform for Susan Squires and me to work together as part of the Master’s Program in Applied Anthropology at the University of North Texas. We created a solid approach for using evaluation to help build careers in Evaluation Anthropology.  It involved bringing the anthropological perspective to doing evaluations that were evidence-based and credible.  Our work has raised the profile of anthropology in the American Evaluation Association (AEA) and in the evaluation community more generally.  Hopefully our efforts will generate careers for anthropologists and motivate practicing anthropologists to refine and improve how anthropology is used to do evaluation.
